The Sylva Project has released Sylva 1.7, introducing new capabilities designed to make the cloud stack easier to deploy across a wider range of infrastructure environments, simpler to keep current, and more efficient to operate.
This release broadens support for external platforms and services, adds Kubernetes 1.34 and 1.35 compatibility, strengthens networking and upgrade workflows, and introduces an early look at nested KubeVirt clusters.
More Flexibility Across Deployment Environments
Sylva 1.7 gives operators more options for integrating Sylva with existing enterprise infrastructure and identity services.
The release adds support for:
- External HashiCorp Vault deployments, allowing organizations to connect Sylva to an existing secrets-management environment.
- External identity providers, making it easier to align Sylva deployments with established authentication and access-management systems.
- Canonical Kubernetes on OpenNebula infrastructure, expanding the combinations of Kubernetes distributions and infrastructure platforms supported by Sylva.
- HPE external storage, providing an additional storage option for organizations using HPE infrastructure.
Together, these enhancements make Sylva more adaptable to the architectures, operational practices, and technology investments already in place across telecom and enterprise environments.
Keeping Sylva Current
Sylva 1.7 continues the project’s focus on maintaining compatibility with current versions of the technologies included in the stack.
The release introduces support for Kubernetes 1.34 and 1.35, enabling Sylva users to take advantage of newer Kubernetes functionality and improvements.
It also adds a two-step upgrade mechanism for components that require an intermediate version before moving to their latest supported release. This provides a more reliable upgrade path for components that cannot safely move directly between versions, helping operators keep deployments current while reducing upgrade risk.
Improving Infrastructure Efficiency
The release also includes several enhancements focused on making infrastructure management more capable and efficient.
Network management has been improved through the addition of new Sylva units for Kube-OVN and NMState resources. These additions provide operators with more options for configuring and managing networking within Sylva environments.
Sylva 1.7 also introduces nested KubeVirt cluster support as a technology preview. This capability allows Kubernetes clusters using KubeVirt virtualization to run within another virtualized environment, opening new possibilities for testing, development, validation, and more efficient use of infrastructure resources.
As a technology preview, nested KubeVirt cluster support gives the Sylva community an opportunity to explore practical use cases and provide feedback that can guide future development.
Continuing to Expand the Sylva Stack
Sylva 1.7 reflects the project’s ongoing work to create a flexible, open, and production-ready cloud framework for telecom workloads.
By supporting more infrastructure combinations, strengthening lifecycle-management processes, and exploring new approaches to infrastructure efficiency, this release helps organizations adapt Sylva to their operational needs while continuing to benefit from a consistent, cloud-native architecture.
